Greetings!
What is Art?
What is art? To paraphrase Tolstoy: the ability of people to receive from other people the expression of feeling and to experience those feelings themselves is the foundation on which art is based.
“If only the spectators or auditors are infected by the feelings which the author has felt, it is art. To evoke in oneself a feeling one has once experienced, and having evoked it in oneself, then, by means of movements, lines, colors, sounds, or forms expressed in words, so to transmit that feeling that others may experience the same feeling – this is the activity of art…Tolstoy“
Each person receives the message differently. Is it the way the artist intended? Perhaps so. Many artists are probably surprised, and may accept for consideration, the various intepretations of their art. High sounding definitions aside, art is simply an expression in a form that is pleasing to its creator, and oftentimes to others. Starving artists. They ply their craft, hone their skills, and often go unrecognized. Think on this: who, after laboring for hours, weeks, years even, on a project close to their heart, wouldn’t appreciate some ‘recognition?’ Humans like to know that others appreciate that over which they have toiled. Some even like knowing if the expression rang a sour note. The Nashville Art Gallery is the place to show your art work and to garner comments about your work. You are invited to submit for consideration your labors of love. Visitors are invited to respond to the work. If you love it, say so. If you love it enough to purchase it, that can be arranged. That said, all works and comments will be reviewed before posting.
